rhode island commission on women 260 West
Exchange Street, Suite 4 RICW is a state agency whose mission is to advance women and girls toward full equity in all areas of life by promoting rights and opportunities. RICW disseminates information on issues relating to girls, but does not operate service programs for girls. RICW annually
provides small awards for women seeking to further their education at
the GED or college level. For K-16 teachers, a Gender
Equity Handbook includes resources and lesson plans. A new Cultural Pluralism project is creating a partnership to transform and integrate curricula across high school and college levels, to incorporate an analysis of comparative cultures, race and social justice issues related to the roles of girls and women in society. The aim is to identify and mitigate societal barriers that prevent girls from advancing to college and achieving their potential. RICW also created a Legal Rights Handbook for RI Women that identifies resources and services for women and girls.
