Sophia Academy is a new non-denominational, academically rich middle school for girls in grades 5-8.

• Encourages cultural strengths
• Uses mentors
• Gives girls time to speak out
• Helps girls to develop trusting relationships with other girls and women
• Educates girls about their own health, including mental health, nutrition and healthy sexuality
• Allows girls a voice in program design
• Provides community service
• Interrelates with schools, educators, and a (K-16) school curriculum

The Sophia Academy school, the out-of-school enrichment and academic support program, and family involvement are the three components designed to implement this holistic education.

Sophia Academy's students represent the diversity of our community. The richness of cultural diversity integrated into a gender specific curriculum helps the girls reach their full potential. Our mission is to create a holistic learning community in Greater Providence for girls from low-income families; and in an atmosphere of non-violence, we focus on the academic, spiritual, cultural and social growth of the girls and their families.
